Knock Sensor Removal and Installation

REMOVAL
1. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Removal and Installation.
2. Disconnect the plug connection (1). Refer to the accompanying illustration.

Location of cable connectors under the intake manifold, viewed from the front:
1 — knock sensor connector (covered)
2 — crankshaft pulse sensor
3 — cylinder identification sensor

3. Unscrew the knock sensor. There are two sensors in the cylinder block. Refer to the accompanying illustration.

* Do not mix up the sensors during installation. This may cause engine damage. Mark the connections and sensor positions for this purpose.

INSTALLATION
1. Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder block/knock sensor.
2. Tighten the knock sensor to 20 N·m.

* Observe the tightening torque, as it is important for correct knock sensor operation. Keep surfaces clean when installing the sensors.

3. Connect the plug connections and secure them in the retainers.
4. Install the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Removal and Installation.
5. Connect the ground cable to the battery. Set the clock. Program the radio stations.
