Ignition Coil Removal and Installation

~1min read

Ignition coils can be checked with an ohmmeter. However, an accurate check must be performed with an oscilloscope in an automotive workshop. Such a check allows the causes of ignition system faults to be identified.

REMOVAL
1. Switch the ignition off.
2. Remove the mounting bolt caps and unscrew the two bolts.

3. Снимите крышки масленок и крышку головки цилиндров.

3. Remove the oil filler cap and the cylinder head cover.
4. Disconnect the connector from each spark plug. To do this, pull the metal retainer upward.

5. Отверните два болта крепления у каждой катушки зажигания. Выньте катушки.

5. Unscrew the two mounting bolts on each ignition coil. Remove the coils.

* Обратите внимание на пластину массы крышки головки цилиндров у цилиндров 1

* Note the ground plate of the cylinder head cover at cylinders 1 and 6.

6. Note the ground plate of the cable shaft between cylinders 2 and 3 if the cylinder head cover is metal. If the cover is plastic, note the ground cable (1) at the connecting plate (2), refer to the illustration. During installation, the cables must be routed back to their original positions.

INSPECTION
1. The illustration shows the connector of one of the ignition coils.
Connect an ohmmeter between terminals 1 and 15 and measure the resistance of the primary winding. It should be approximately 0.8 Ohm.

* Сопротивление вторичной обмотки (между соединением свечи зажигания, клеммой

* Secondary winding resistance (between the spark plug connector, terminal 4 and the ground connection) cannot be measured.

2. Replace the spark plug connectors. Refer to Spark Plug Connector Removal and Installation.

INSTALLATION
1. Insert the ignition coils with connectors and secure with metal clips.
2. Install the cylinder head cover. Install the oil filler caps.
