Safety precautions when working on the airbag system
• Airbag replacement and inspection must be performed only at a service center. Under no circumstances may any modifications be made to the airbag.
• The steering wheel with airbag may only be replaced with a steering wheel approved by the vehicle manufacturer.
• Do not apply stickers or covers to the airbag cover in the steering wheel, and do not perform any other work on it. The cover may only be cleaned with a dry cloth or a cloth dampened with water, or with a cleaner approved by the vehicle manufacturer.
• The airbag is not a substitute for the seat belt. All occupants must wear their seat belts.
• The driver seat must be adjusted to suit the driver's body size.
• Do not install a child seat in front of the airbag. Children under 12 years old must be transported only on the rear seat.
• Do not place any objects between the airbag and the occupant.
• Do not use the airbag cover as a shelf.
• If the airbag has deployed as a result of an accident, replace the control unit, airbag module and contact unit with new ones.
• Before working on the airbag system or electrical equipment, disconnect the negative battery cable. Then disconnect the plug connector on the steering column.
• Store the airbag so that its cushion side faces up.
• A removed airbag that has not deployed must be stored in a room with restricted access.
• Do not treat the airbag with grease, cleaners or similar substances.
• The airbag module and control unit are sensitive to shock. If the airbag has been dropped from a height of more than 50 cm, it must not be used again. If dropped from a lower height, the airbag must be inspected at a service center.
• When welding, connect the welding cable clamp as close as possible to the welding area. Disconnect the battery ground cable and insulate the negative battery terminal to prevent accidental contact. Also disconnect the airbag plug connector from the inflator.
• The airbag module and control unit must not be exposed to temperatures above +75°C, even briefly. Damaged airbag components cannot be repaired. Do not open airbag components without authorization. Before installation, check again that the battery ground cable is disconnected.
• Never attempt to dispose of the airbag yourself. Risk of explosion!
• Observe the safety precautions when working on the belt tensioner. Refer to Safety precautions when working on the belt tensioner.
