Removal and installation of the steering tie rod end
REMOVAL
1. Mark the position of the wheel relative to the hub with paint. This allows the balanced wheel to be reinstalled in its original position. Loosen the wheel bolts while the vehicle is on the ground. Raise and support the vehicle on stands and remove the wheel.
2. Remove the tie rod end locknut. Refer to the Front Suspension Crossmember Removal and Installation section.
3. Remove the ball joint nut at the steering knuckle.

4. Separate the ball joint using a standard puller, for example HAZET 779-1.

5. Unscrew the tie rod end. Hold the tie rod with a wrench to prevent it from turning.
* Count the number of turns while unscrewing. This will make adjustment easier later. Note that there are right-hand and left-hand threads.
INSTALLATION
1. Screw the end onto the tie rod. The number of turns must equal the number counted during removal.
2. Tighten the tie rod end locknut to the torque given in the Specifications.
3. Install the tie rod end into the steering knuckle. Secure it with a new self-locking nut to the torque given in the Specifications.
4. Install and secure the front wheel. Do not lubricate the bolts with oil or grease. Install the wheel so that the marks made during removal align. Lower the vehicle onto the wheels. Tighten the wheel bolts in a crisscross pattern to 100 N·m.
5. Adjust the toe-in. Refer to the Wheel Alignment Inspection and Adjustment section.
