Bleeding Air and Filling the Power Steering Hydraulic System with Fluid

~1min read

Air must be bled from the hydraulic system if it has been opened. Always fill the system only with new fluid, as even minor contamination may cause malfunctions.

For the types of fluid to be used, refer to the Specifications. Use of other ATF must be approved by a BMW representative.

PROCEDURE

1. Remove the reservoir cap with the engine off.
2. Start the engine and let it idle. Immediately fill the fluid up to the MIN mark (2). Refer to the accompanying illustration.

* Do not run the pump without fluid.

3. Медленно поверните рулевое колесо влево и вправо дважды до упора.

3. Slowly turn the steering wheel fully left and right twice, to the stop.
4. Check the fluid level again. Top up if necessary.
5. Stop the engine and check the fluid level.
6. Top up the fluid to the MAX mark (1). Add fluid in small amounts. Total system capacity is 1.2 L.
7. Close the reservoir with the cap.
8. The level of cold fluid should be between the MIN and MAX marks on the dipstick. Cold fluid means fluid at a temperature of +20°C.
