Run-flat tires. Repairing a flat tire

~2min read

Run-flat tires on the BMW 5 Series G30 allow the vehicle to continue driving for a certain distance after a sudden loss of tire pressure. Reinforced sidewalls provide stability and mobility even without air pressure. The RSC marking on the tire sidewall identifies this tire type. In the event of a flat, particular caution is required; safety notes and correct behavior when changing the tire are explained in detail. If you do not carry a spare wheel, pay particular attention to the special characteristics of this tire.

Tires with run-flat properties

Principle

Run-flat tires allow limited continued driving after a complete loss of tire inflation pressure.

General

The wheels consist of run-flat tires and, where applicable, special rims.

Because of the reinforced sidewall, the tire remains limited drivable after a loss of tire inflation pressure.

Observe the notes on continuing to drive with a flat tire.

Safety measures

  • Park the vehicle as far away from moving traffic as possible and on firm ground.
  • Switch on the hazard warning lights.
  • Secure the vehicle against rolling away by applying the parking brake.
  • Engage the steering wheel lock with the wheels in the straight-ahead position.
  • Have all occupants leave the vehicle and move them out of the danger zone, e.g. behind the guardrail.
  • If necessary, place a warning triangle at an appropriate distance.

The run-flat tires on the BMW 5 Series G30/G31 impressively show how modern technology keeps you mobile even in the event of a flat. Thanks to the reinforced sidewalls, the vehicle remains maneuverable after a loss of pressure and can be driven safely to the next workshop.

Particularly noteworthy is the clear recommendation to use only run-flat tires when no spare wheel is available. The RSC marking on the tire sidewall serves as an easy means of identification and provides additional safety.

With these solutions, the BMW 5 Series G30/G31 demonstrates that comfort and safety have the highest priority, even in exceptional situations.
