Tire Tread
Tire tread depth is a critical factor for driving safety, especially on wet or snowy roads. Summer tires should have at least 3 mm of remaining tread, and winter tires at least 4 mm. If the tire falls below these values, the risk of aquaplaning or reduced winter traction increases. The legally required minimum tread depth is 1.6 mm and is indicated by so-called TWI markings. Regular checks prevent unnecessary risks in road traffic.
Summer Tires
Do not go below a tire tread depth of 3 mm.
Below 3 mm tire tread depth, there is a high risk of aquaplaning.
Winter Tires
Do not go below a tire tread depth of 4 mm.
Below 4 mm, winter traction is limited.
Minimum Tread Depth

Tread wear indicators are distributed around the tire circumference and have the legally required minimum height of 1.6 mm.
They are marked on the tire sidewall with TWI, Tread Wear Indicator.
The tread information for the BMW 5 Series G30/G31 shows how much safety depends on seemingly simple factors such as tread depth. Especially in rain or snow, every millimeter of tread often decides the grip on the road and whether aquaplaning or long braking distances occur.
The reference to the legally required tread wear indicators, which are visible directly on the tire, is especially useful. They help the driver respond in time when a tire replacement is necessary and keep the vehicle at a high safety level.
In this way, the BMW 5 Series G30/G31 shows that safety is not only a matter of technology, but also of care and attention.
