Wheel change
The wheel change on the BMW 5 Series G30 is prepared for emergencies, including safety precautions, tool use and instructions for safely lifting the vehicle. The warnings clearly state when the jack is to be used and how accidents can be avoided. The correct tightening torque for the wheel bolts is also specified. A well-thought-out system for breakdowns that puts safety first.
General
With run-flat tires or when using tire sealant, an immediate wheel change is not always required in the event of a loss of tire pressure.
If required, suitable wheel change tools are available as accessories from a BMW Service Partner, another qualified Service Partner or a specialist workshop.
Safety notes
WARNING The vehicle manufacturer's jack is intended for changing a wheel in an emergency.
The jack is not designed for frequent use, e.g. for changing from summer to winter tires. With frequent use, the jack may jam or be damaged. There is a risk of injury and a risk of property damage.
Use the jack only to change an emergency or spare wheel in the event of a breakdown.
WARNING On soft, uneven or slippery surfaces, e.g. snow, ice, tiles or similar, the jack may slip. There is a risk of injury. Carry out the tire/wheel change on a level, hard, non-slip surface whenever possible.
WARNING The jack is only intended for briefly lifting the vehicle during a wheel change. Even when the safety measures are observed, the jack may tip over and the raised vehicle may fall. There is a risk of serious injury or death. When the vehicle is raised with the jack, do not get under the vehicle and do not start the engine.
WARNING The jack is designed only for lifting the vehicle and for the jacking points on the vehicle. There is a risk of injury.
Do not use the jack to lift any other vehicle or other load.
WARNING If the jack is not inserted into the intended jacking point, the vehicle may be damaged when cranking up or the jack may slip. There is a risk of injury or property damage. When cranking up, make sure the jack is inserted into the jacking point next to the wheel arch.
WARNING A vehicle raised with a jack may fall off the jack if subjected to lateral force. There is a risk of injury and a risk of property damage.
When the vehicle is raised, do not apply lateral force to the vehicle or pull on the vehicle jerkily. Have a wheel that is stuck loose removed by a BMW Service Partner, a qualified Service Partner or a specialist workshop.
Securing the vehicle against rolling away
General
The vehicle manufacturer recommends additionally securing the vehicle against rolling away when changing a wheel.
On level ground

Place wheel chocks or other suitable objects in front of and behind the wheel diagonally opposite the wheel to be changed.
On a slight slope

If a wheel change is necessary on a slight slope, place wheel chocks or other suitable objects, e.g. a stone, against the direction of rolling under the wheels of the front and rear axles.
Wheel bolt lock
Overview
The wheel bolt lock adapter is located in the on-board tool kit or in a compartment with the on-board tool kit.

- Wheel bolt, arrow 1.
- Adapter, arrow 2.
Removing
- Insert the adapter onto the wheel bolt.
- Unscrew the wheel bolt.
Preparing the vehicle
- Park the vehicle as far away from flowing traffic as possible, on firm and non-slip ground.
- Switch on the hazard warning lights.
- Apply the parking brake.
- Engage a gear or select position P.
- As soon as traffic conditions allow, have all occupants get out and move them out of the danger zone, e.g. behind the crash barriers.
- Depending on equipment, remove the tools and the emergency wheel from the vehicle.
- If necessary, place a warning triangle or hazard warning light at an appropriate distance.
- Do not place wooden blocks or similar objects under the jack, otherwise it may not reach its load capacity due to the limited height.
- Additionally secure the vehicle against rolling away.
- Loosen the wheel bolts by half a turn.
Jacking points

The jacking points are located at the marked positions.
Lifting the vehicle
WARNING Hands or fingers may be trapped when using the jack. There is a risk of injury. When using the jack, keep your hands in the described position and do not change this position.
- Hold the jack with one hand, arrow 1, and grip the crank with the other hand, arrow 2.

- Insert the jack into the rectangular recess of the jacking point closest to the wheel to be changed.

- Extend the jack by turning the crank or lever clockwise.

- Take your hand off the jack as soon as the jack is under load and continue turning the crank or lever with one hand.
- Make sure the jack base extends vertically.

- Make sure that after extension the jack base is at a right angle and vertically beneath the jacking point.

- Crank up until the jack is resting on the ground with its entire base and the wheel in question is raised no more than 3 cm off the ground.
Fitting the wheel
Fit no more than one emergency wheel.
- Unscrew the wheel bolts and remove the wheel.
- Place the new wheel or emergency wheel on and screw in at least two bolts diagonally by hand.
If wheels other than original BMW light-alloy wheels are fitted, the wheel bolts belonging to those wheels may also need to be used.
After changing the wheel
- Tighten the wheel bolts in a star pattern.
Tightening torque: 140 N·m.
Due to its size, the defective wheel cannot be stored under the luggage compartment floor.
Replacing a light bulb on the BMW 5 Series G30/G31 may seem simple at first glance, but it requires the highest precision. The instructions for using genuine BMW bulbs ensure that light output, fit, and electrical safety meet strict specifications.
It is especially important to have the replacement of headlight or LED light sources carried out by a service partner. This ensures that the lighting systems continue to function optimally and that road safety is maintained.
The BMW 5 Series G30/G31 demonstrates that safety begins with even the smallest component and does not end with driving comfort.
