Installing child restraint systems
Here you will find everything about safely installing child restraint systems in the BMW 5 Series (seventh generation). The text offers practical tips on selecting suitable seats, seating position and deactivating the front passenger airbags. Safety warnings and proper preparation of the front passenger seat are особенно highlighted, making this an essential guide for parents and caregivers.
General
Child restraint systems for every age or weight group are available from a BMW Service Partner or another qualified service partner or specialist workshop.
When selecting, installing and using child restraint systems, observe the information, operating and safety instructions provided by the child restraint system manufacturer.
Safety notes
WARNING If child restraint systems or their anchorage systems are damaged or have been subjected to stress in an accident, their protective effect may be reduced or lost. A child may, for example, not be restrained sufficiently, e.g. in an accident or during braking and evasive maneuvers. There is a risk of injury or death. Have damaged child restraint systems, or those subjected to stress in an accident, and their anchorage systems checked by a BMW Service Partner or another qualified service partner or specialist workshop, and replaced if necessary.
WARNING If the seat is set incorrectly or the child seat is installed incorrectly, the stability of the child restraint system is reduced or absent. There is a risk of injury or death. Make sure the child restraint system sits firmly against the seat back.
Where possible, adjust the backrest angle on all affected seat backs and set the seats correctly. Make sure the seats and their backrests are properly locked in place.
If possible, adjust the head restraints to a suitable height or remove them.
On the front passenger seat
Deactivating the airbags
WARNING Active front passenger airbags can injure a child in a child restraint system when they deploy. There is a risk of injury.
Make sure the front passenger airbags are deactivated and the PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF indicator lamp is illuminated. Before installing a child restraint system on the front passenger seat, make sure that both the front and side airbags on the passenger side are deactivated.
Deactivate the front passenger airbags with the key switch.
Rear-facing child restraint systems
DANGER When deployed, an active front passenger airbag can fatally injure a child in a rear-facing child restraint system.
There is a risk of injury or death.
Make sure the front passenger airbags are deactivated and the PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF indicator lamp is illuminated

Observe the label on the passenger side sun visor.
Never use a rear-facing child restraint on a seat with an active front airbag. This can result in death or serious injury to children.
Seat position and height
Before installing a universal child restraint system, move the front passenger seat to the rearmost position and to a mid-height position, if possible, to achieve the best possible belt routing and protection in an accident.
If the upper anchorage point of the seat belt is in front of the child seat belt guide, carefully move the front passenger seat forward until the best possible belt routing is achieved.
Backrest width
With adjustable backrest width: Before installing a child restraint system on the front passenger seat, fully open the backrest width. Do not change the backrest width again and do not recall any memory position.
Installing child restraint systems in the BMW 5 Series G30/G31 is particularly safe and simple thanks to ISOFIX and clearly marked anchorage points. Precise instructions on seat position and airbag deactivation minimize the risk during installation.
The BMW 5 Series G30/G31 thus demonstrates that it places the protection of its youngest passengers at the centre of its focus and meets the highest safety standards.
FAQQuestion 1: Why must the passenger airbags be deactivated?
Answer: Because an active airbag could injure a child in the child seat when deployed.
Question 2: Which seat position is recommended for the front passenger seat when using child seats?
Answer: The rearmost position and a mid-height position, for optimal belt routing and protection.
