Driving comfort
Front Cross Traffic Alert in the BMW 5 VII generation is a valuable addition for safe maneuvering out of driveways, parking spaces or intersections with limited visibility. Radar sensors in the front bumper detect vehicles, cyclists or pedestrians approaching from the side. In case of danger, audible warnings and visual alerts are shown on the Control Display and in the exterior mirrors. The function is particularly helpful in urban areas with parked cars or at confusing intersections. It is activated automatically when driving forward slowly. Even though the technology works precisely, visual checks and driver caution remain essential.
Vehicle equipment
This chapter describes all standard, country-specific and optional equipment offered in the model series. It therefore also describes equipment that is not available in a given vehicle, for example due to the selected optional equipment or country variant. This also applies to safety-related functions and systems. When using the corresponding functions and systems, observe the applicable laws and regulations.
Dynamic Damper Control
Principle
The system reduces unwanted vehicle movements during dynamic driving or on uneven road surfaces.
Depending on road surface and driving style, this increases driving dynamics and ride comfort.
General
The system offers different damper settings.
These are assigned to the different driving modes of the Driving Experience Control switch.

Adaptive Drive
Principle
Adaptive Drive is an actively controlled suspension system.
The system increases ride comfort and at the same time minimizes body roll during cornering.
General
Available information, e.g. from the navigation system or driving style analysis, is used for active control.
This information influences the control of Dynamic Damper Control and the control of Active Roll Stabilization, particularly in ADAPTIVE driving mode.
This further increases both the agility and the comfort of the vehicle.
Active Roll Stabilization
Principle
The system reduces body roll, as occurs during dynamic cornering or quick evasive maneuvers.
Body roll is compensated by continuous adjustment at the front and rear axles. The vehicle is thus continuously stabilized.
Agility and ride comfort are increased in all driving conditions.
General
The system offers different calibrations.
These are assigned to the different driving modes of the Driving Experience Control switch.

The ride comfort systems of the BMW 5 Series G30/G31, including Dynamic Damper Control, Adaptive Drive and Active Roll Stabilization, provide a balanced combination of agility and comfort. Depending on the selected driving mode, the vehicle adjusts the suspension setup to ensure an optimal driving experience, both on winding country roads and on long highway stretches.
Adaptive Drive in particular combines Active Roll Stabilization and damper control to minimize body roll in corners and increase ride comfort. By integrating navigation and sensor data, the adjustment is predictive and precise. This increases not only comfort but also driving safety.
FAQQuestion 1: Does the system affect fuel consumption?
Answer: The systems work efficiently; as a rule, there is no noticeable effect on fuel consumption.
Question 2: Can the driver select the setting manually?
Answer: Yes, different driving modes and therefore also the settings can be selected actively using the Driving Experience Control switch.
