The right place for children
This section shows how to transport children safely in the BMW 5 Series G30. It provides guidance on choosing the right seating position, warns of the dangers of leaving children unattended in the vehicle, and explains the correct use of child restraint systems. It particularly emphasizes that children under 150 cm tall should only be secured on the rear seat with suitable child restraint systems. The correct handling of deactivated front passenger airbags is also explained in detail.
Safety information
WARNING Unattended children or animals in the vehicle can set the vehicle in motion and endanger themselves or other road users, e.g. by the following actions:
- Pressing the Start/Stop button.
- Releasing the parking brake.
- Opening and closing the doors or windows.
- Engaging selector lever position N.
- Operating vehicle equipment.
There is a risk of accident or injury.
Never leave children or animals unattended in the vehicle. When leaving the vehicle, take the remote control with you and lock the vehicle.
Children always on the rear seat
General
Accident research shows that the rear seat is the safest place for children.
Only transport children younger than 12 years or shorter than 150 cm on the rear seat, in suitable child restraint systems designed for their age, weight and height. Secure children aged 12 and older with a seat belt once a suitable child restraint system is no longer appropriate based on their age, weight and height.
Safety information
WARNING Children shorter than 150 cm cannot wear the seat belt correctly without suitable additional child restraint systems. The protective effect of the seat belts may be reduced or lost if they are worn incorrectly. An incorrectly worn seat belt can cause additional injuries, e.g. in an accident or during braking and evasive maneuvers.
Risk of injury or death. Secure children shorter than 150 cm in suitable child restraint systems.
Children on the front passenger seat
General
When using a child restraint system on the front passenger seat, make sure that the front and side airbags on the passenger side are deactivated. The passenger airbags can only be deactivated with the passenger airbag key switch.
Safety information
WARNING Active front passenger airbags can injure a child in a child restraint system when they deploy. There is a risk of injury.
Make sure the passenger airbags are deactivated and the PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF indicator lamp is illuminated.
Suitable seating positions
Information on the suitability of the seats for child restraint systems secured with a seat belt, according to standard ECE-R 16:

U: Suitable for universal-category child restraint systems approved for use in this weight group.
L: Suitable for semi-universal-category child restraint systems, if the vehicle and seating position are listed in the vehicle list of the child restraint system manufacturer.
X: Not suitable for universal-category child restraint systems approved for use in this weight group.
a) Adjust the front passenger seat in the longitudinal direction and, if necessary, move it to the highest position to achieve the best possible belt routing.
The BMW 5 Series G30/G31 offers well-considered safety solutions for transporting children. The clear recommendation to always secure children on the rear seats and in suitable restraint systems reflects the manufacturer's sense of responsibility.
The information on airbags and suitable seating positions is particularly helpful, enabling safe transport even on the front passenger seat. This keeps the BMW 5 Series G30/G31 a reliable companion for families.
This combines the highest level of safety with practical comfort for the whole family.
