Towing Methods
In some countries, towing with a rope or with a rigid towing bar is prohibited.
Observe the applicable regulations of the country in which you are driving.
Towing with a rigid towing bar:
The towing vehicle must always be heavier than the vehicle being towed, otherwise it will lose steering control.
The towing eyes of both vehicles must be located on the same side.
If a diagonal arrangement of the towing eyes is unavoidable, observe the following:
► Freedom of maneuver when negotiating turns is limited.
► A lateral force acts when the rigid tow bar is connected diagonally.
Attach the rigid tow bar only to the towing eye. Do not tow the vehicle by any other components.
Towing with a tow rope:
Make sure the tow rope is taut before pulling away.
For towing, use nylon tow ropes, which compensate for excessive jerking. Attach the ropes only to the towing eye. Do not tow the vehicle by any other components.

Transporting the vehicle:
To avoid locking the wheels and damaging the transfer case, do not tow your BMW X5 with the front or rear axle raised.
Transport the vehicle on a flatbed tow truck.
