Starting the Engine by Towing and Towing the Vehicle

Towing Eye: The towing eye is located under the luggage compartment floor. It must always be carried in the vehicle. The eye is screwed into the threaded receptacles provided at the front and rear of the vehicle.

To avoid damage to the towing eye and the vehicle, observe the following: Use only the original towing eye. Screw it into the receptacle as far as it will go. Use the towing eye only for towing on paved roads. The towing eye is not designed for transverse loads (for example, the vehicle must not be lifted by the towing eye).

Access to the threaded receptacle. Front: Press out the left or right cover by inserting a screwdriver at its side, see arrows.

Rear: Remove the cover.

Towing the Vehicle

The ignition key must be in position 1, otherwise the steering may lock and the vehicle becomes unsteerable. With the engine switched off, the power assistance does not operate. Therefore, greater force is required for braking and steering.

Switch on the hazard warning lights (observing national requirements). If the electrical system fails, make the towed vehicle conspicuous, for example with a warning sign or an emergency stop sign on the rear window.

To avoid damage to the automatic transmission, do not exceed the maximum towing speed and distance (50 km/h and 150 km respectively).

Vehicles with manual transmission: Shift the gear lever to neutral.

Vehicles with automatic transmission: Move the selector lever to position N.
