Operating Principle
The Active Cruise Control system allows you to select a speed that the vehicle will maintain automatically while driving on a clear lane.
When a slower vehicle is ahead, the system automatically adjusts your speed to match its speed. Four different distances can be set. For safety reasons, the distance depends on vehicle speed.
To maintain the distance, the system automatically releases the accelerator and, if necessary, applies the brakes, and accelerates again when the vehicle ahead speeds up. When the road is clear, it accelerates the vehicle to the speed you have set. This speed is also maintained when driving downhill.
To use the system safely and with full awareness, carefully read and strictly observe the instructions in the section “Physical Limits of System Operation” on page 49.
Braking Sensation
When braking under automatic control, you may notice unfamiliar sensations. Noises that sometimes occur during automatic deceleration are normal.
Vehicles with manual transmission
You can change gears while the cruise control system is operating. If you delay shifting at engine speeds that are too high or too low, the warning lamp will prompt you to shift. Further delay will cause the cruise control system to switch off.
