Stability control systems
Your BMW has a number of systems that maintain vehicle stability at the proper level even in adverse driving conditions.
Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
The ABS prevents the wheels from locking during braking. The vehicle remains steerable even when the driver fully depresses the brake pedal. This improves active safety.
The ABS is ready for operation after every engine start. “Reliable braking”:
.
Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBV)
EBV regulates brake pressure at the rear wheels, ensuring braking stability.
Dynamic Brake Control (DBC)
When the brake pedal is pressed abruptly, this system automatically provides maximum boost, thus helping to achieve the shortest braking distance when braking to a complete stop. The advantages of the ABS are also utilized.
Keep applying the brake pedal for as long as braking is required. The DBC system switches off when the brake pedal is released.
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)
DSC prevents drive wheel spin when starting off and accelerating. It also detects critical situations such as understeer and oversteer. By reducing engine output and applying the brakes to individual wheels, it maintains vehicle directional stability within physical limits.
DSC does not override the laws of physics. Therefore, full responsibility for choosing the proper driving style rests with the driver. The presence of an additional safety system should not encourage you to take unjustified risks.◄
Dynamic Traction Control (DTC)
DTC improves traction, for example when driving in deep snow. The gain in traction is achieved at the expense of stability.
Therefore, be careful when the system is switched on.
Briefly switching on DTC may be useful in the following non-standard situations:
► when climbing a snow-covered slope or driving in slush or deep snow;
► when rocking the vehicle out of deep snow or loose ground;
► when driving with snow chains.
Switching on DTC

Press the indicated button. The DTC indicator lamps in the instrument cluster light up.
Switching off DTC
Press the button again. The DTC indicator lamps go out.
Simultaneous deactivation of DTC and DSC

Press and hold the button for at least 3 seconds. The DSC indicator lamps in the instrument cluster light up. The stabilizing and traction-enhancing effects of the systems are now disabled.
To maintain vehicle stability at the proper level, switch the system back on as soon as possible.
Switching on DSC
Press the button. The indicator lamps in the instrument cluster go out.
Indicator lamps
The indicator lamp flashes:
DSC or DTC is in torque and brake pressure control mode.
Indicator lamps lit:
DTC and DSC systems switched off with the DTC button.
Indicator lamps lit:
DTC system switched off with the DTC button.
Faults in stability control systems
These warning lamps light up:
the stability control systems and the tire damage indicator have failed.
Continue driving with caution and anticipate the traffic situation. Try not to fully depress the brake pedal. Have the system checked by a BMW service center as soon as possible.
Indication of the above malfunction depends on the vehicle equipment version.
The DSC warning lamps have illuminated: the DSC system, including the DTC and DBC functions, is faulty.
The stabilizing effect of the system and the brake boost are not available. The vehicle remains roadworthy. Have the system checked by a BMW service center as soon as possible.
