Battery

~2min read

Vehicles without a stop-start system are equipped with a lead-acid battery.

Vehicles with a stop-start system are equipped with an AGM battery. The battery installed in the vehicle is maintenance-free, provided that the way the vehicle is used allows the battery to be charged properly.

Driving short distances and frequent engine starts may discharge the battery. Avoid unnecessary use of electrical consumers.

Used batteries must not be disposed of with other household waste. They must be taken to an appropriate collection point.

If the vehicle is not used for more than four weeks, its battery may discharge. Disconnect the negative battery terminal from the vehicle's electrical system.

Before disconnecting or connecting battery cables, be sure to switch off the ignition.

Warning Due to the risk of explosion, do not bring sparks, open flames or glowing materials near the battery. A battery explosion may cause vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death. Avoid contact of electrolyte with eyes, skin, fabrics and painted surfaces. Battery electrolyte contains sulfuric acid, which can cause skin burns and corrosion of vehicle components on direct contact. In case of skin contact, rinse the affected area with water and seek medical advice immediately. Keep out of reach of children.

Do not tilt an open battery.

Battery replacement

Note Any deviation from the instructions in this section may cause the stop-start system to be temporarily disabled.

Use only batteries that allow the fuse box to be mounted above the battery.

On vehicles with a stop-start system, replace an AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) battery with a battery of the same type.

AGM batteries can be identified by the label on them. Using genuine GM batteries is recommended.

Note Using an AGM battery other than a genuine GM battery may impair the operation of the stop-start system.

It is recommended to have the battery replaced at an authorized service center.

Charging the battery

Warning On vehicles with a stop-start system, when charging the battery with a battery charger, make sure the charging voltage does not exceed 14.6 V. Otherwise, the battery may be damaged.
