Starting the engine with the ignition switch

  • Turn the key to position 1.

    Turn the steering wheel slightly to release the steering lock.

  • Manual transmission: press the clutch pedal.
  • Automatic transmission: move the selector lever to P or N.
  • Do not press the accelerator pedal.
  • Diesel engines: turn the ignition key to position 2 to activate engine preheating until the indicator light goes out..

  • Press the clutch and brake pedals, turn the key to the START position and release it when the engine starts.

Before restarting the engine or to switch it off, return the key to position 0.

Caution Do not operate the starter motor for more than 10 seconds at a time. If the engine does not start, wait 10 seconds before trying again.

This will prevent damage to the starter motor.
