Automatic dipped beam switching-on function

~4min read

Performance

In automatic mode, the lights are switched on based on the following parameters:

  • information on decreasing exterior brightness,
  • activation of the windscreen wiper system.

The function of the light sensor is to provide information representing the ambient exterior brightness at the vehicle and in front of it.

The light sensor consists of the following components:

  • upward-facing light-receiving diode to provide information on the ambient outside light level,
  • forward-facing light-receiving diode to provide information on the light level in front of the vehicle.

Activation / deactivation of the automatic dipped beam switching-on function

The automatic lighting function is activated or deactivated in the +ACC position by a two-second long press on the push button at the end of the lighting switch lever. Each long press on the push button is accompanied by a confirmation beep and a message on the multifunction display indicating the active status of the function. The status of the function is stored each time the ignition is switched off. The active status is recalled each time the key is turned to the +ACC position.

Conditions for automatic switching on / off of the dipped beams

Based on exterior brightness information

The lights are switched on and off according to the following parameters:

  • ambient brightness (day / darkness): the ambient exterior brightness level is compared with the thresholds programmed in the BSI,
  • presence of a tunnel or poorly lit car park: A distance calculation is performed before the lights are switched on, in addition to comparing the ambient exterior brightness level with the thresholds programmed in the BSI. The distance calculation is based on vehicle speed. The vehicle speed and distance information is broadcast by the ABS computer via the CAN network.

The system does not request the lights to be switched on when passing under a bridge or through a temporary shadow zone.

Nota : L’allumage automatique est actif moteur tournant

Note: Automatic switching on is active with the engine running.

Based on the status of the wiper system

Based on the status of the wiper system

No lights switch-on request:

  • if the wipers are requested one-off,
  • if it is a washing cycle.

DETAILS

A Reading and filtering of the signal from the light sensor by the BSI
B The BSI determines whether the conditions for automatic switching on / off (based on exterior brightness) are met.
C Control of the sidelights by the BSI
Control of the dipped beam relay at the BSM by the BSI via the CAR1 VAN network
Control of the dipped beam warning light on the instrument cluster by the BSI via the CONFORT VAN network

AUTOMATIC SWITCHING ON BY ACTIVATION OF THE WIPER SYSTEM

STEP

DETAILS

A Automatic activation Manual activation
Reading and filtering of the signal from the rain sensor by the BSI Driver action on the wiper switch
B The BSI determines the wiping mode to adopt according to the type of precipitation and triggers the wiper system. The BSI triggers the wiper system according to the position of the wiper switch.
C Control of the sidelights by the BSI
Control of the dipped beam relays at the BSM by the BSI via the CAR1 VAN network
Control of the dipped beam warning light on the instrument cluster by the BSI via the CONFORT VAN network

Note: Manual controls of the lighting system always take priority over automatic switching on. In addition, any manual intervention cancels the timers in progress for the lighting duration defined in the automatic operating strategy.

Note : The lights are kept on for 30 seconds when the key is turned to the off position if the exterior brightness level is judged insufficient. The timer is reset when the driver's door is opened and closed.

Note: If the engine is off, deactivating the automatic lighting mode will switch off the lights if they were on.
