Effect of automatic gearbox

~1min read

Performance

The information supplied by the transmission oil temperature sensor, located in the automatic gearbox hydraulic block, allows the AT gearbox control module to force the Cooling Fan Unit to start, via the Engine Control Module, to cool the gearbox oil through the heat exchanger.

Degraded mode

A fault in the AT gearbox oil temperature sensor causes the following operation:

  • The AT gearbox control module uses the engine coolant temperature value as its setpoint,
  • If the engine coolant temperature sensor is faulty, the AT gearbox control module uses a default stored gearbox oil temperature value as its setpoint.

The AT gearbox control module transmits the AT gearbox fault information on the CAN network. The BSI takes this information and transmits it to the instrument cluster via the VAN CONFORT network.

A loss of communication between the CAN network and the AT gearbox control module causes the Cooling Fan Unit to run at low speed.
