GENERAL INFORMATION.

Normal rear suspension operation is impossible without correct adjustment of the

preload of the tapered roller wheel bearings.

Adjust..

PROCEDURE.

1. Remove dust cap 17 from the hub.

12..

2. Remove cotter pin 15 from the spindle hole..

3. Rotate the wheel by hand in the direction of forward vehicle travel,

and tighten nut 16 to a torque of 25 N·m to seat the bearing cones.

Excess grease is forced out of the bearings and their bores, and the bearings are correctly seated in their bores, eliminating possible causes of

increased axial play..

4. Fully loosen nut

16..

5. Tighten nut 16 by hand. Then loosen it until the hole in the spindle aligns with one of the slots in the castellated nut, but by no more than half a turn..

6. Install a new cotter pin and bend its ends..

7. Measure the axial play. With correct bearing adjustment, the axial play should be 0.03–0.13 mm..

8. Install dust cap 17 into hub 12.
