Body care tips
The paint serves not only an aesthetic function but also protects the body panels.
Therefore, abraded areas or deep scratches should be repaired immediately to prevent rust from forming. When repainting, use only original products (see the 'body paint code plate' in the 'Technical specifications' chapter).
Normal care consists of regular washing; the frequency depends on operating and environmental conditions. In areas with heavy air pollution or when driving on roads treated with road salt, wash the vehicle more often.
To wash the vehicle correctly, proceed as follows:
- Rinse the bodywork with a low-pressure water jet;
- Wipe the bodywork with a sponge and a mild cleaning solution, rinsing the sponge frequently;
- Rinse the bodywork thoroughly with water and dry with an air jet or a chamois leather.
If the vehicle is to be washed in an automatic car wash, observe the following recommendations:
- Remove the roof antenna to avoid damaging it;
- Washing must be carried out with water to which a cleaning solution has been added;
- Rinse the vehicle thoroughly to prevent cleaning agent residue from remaining on the bodywork or less visible parts;
Someautomatic car washes fitted with old-generation brushes and/or not properly maintained can damage the paint, creating micro-scratches that make the paint look dull or hazy, especially on dark colours. If this occurs, a light polish with specific products is sufficient.
When drying, do not forget less visible areas such as doors, bonnets and headlight surrounds, where water can easily collect. After washing, it is best to leave the vehicle standing outdoors so that any remaining moisture can evaporate.
Do not wash the vehicle if it has been parked in the sun or if the bonnet is still hot: this could affect the gloss of the paint.
Thedetergents pollute waterways. Vehicles should therefore only be washed at facilities equipped to collect and treat the liquids used for washing.
Clean the exterior plastic parts in the same way as during a normal car wash.
Avoid parking under trees where possible. The resinous secretions that fall from many tree species give the paint a dull appearance and can promote the onset of corrosion.
Note: bird droppings must be washed off immediately and thoroughly, as their acid is particularly corrosive.
Front headlightsNote: when cleaning the transparent plastic covers of the front headlights, do not use aromatic substances (e.g. petrol) or ketones (e.g. acetone).
WindowsUse suitable cleaning products to clean the windows. Always use clean cloths to avoid scratches that impair visibility.
Note: to avoid damaging the heating elements applied to the inside of the rear window, rub carefully and only in the direction of the heating elements.
Engine compartmentAfter each winter season, a thorough engine compartment wash is recommended: do not aim the spray directly at the control units, and protect the upper air vents accordingly to prevent damage to the wiper motor. For this work, contact an authorised workshop.
Note: wash the engine compartment with the engine cold and the ignition key in the STOP position. After washing, check that the various protective elements (e.g. rubber covers) have not been dislodged or damaged.
