Dualdrive electric power steering
Operates only with the key turned to the ON position and the engine running. The steering allows the steering effort to be adjusted to suit driving conditions.
WARNING If the ignition key is turned quickly, full power steering function may take a few seconds to be restored.
Activating / deactivating the CITY function
To activate/deactivate the function, press the CITY button fig. 86.
Activation of the function is indicated by the CITY message on the display (on some versions it is indicated by the CITY warning light illuminating on the instrument cluster).
With the CITY function activated, the steering effort is lighter, making parking manoeuvres easier: activating the function is therefore particularly useful when driving in town centres.
WARNING When performing parking manoeuvres involving a high number of steering movements, the steering may become stiffer. This is normal and is due to the intervention of the overheating protection system of the electric steering motor; it therefore does not require any repair. The power steering will return to normal operation the next time the vehicle is used.
CAUTION 123) Any aftermarket modification involving tampering with the steering gear or steering column (e.g. fitting an anti-theft device) is strictly prohibited, as it may cause, in addition to loss of system performance and warranty coverage, serious safety problems and non-compliance of the vehicle with type approval.124) Before carrying out any maintenance work, always switch off the engine, remove the key from the ignition device and engage the steering lock, especially when the vehicle has its wheels off the ground. If this is not possible (the key needs to be in the ON position or the engine running), remove the main fuse protecting the electric power steering.
