Mode selector

~3min read

(Panda Cross 4x4 versions)

This device allows you to select three different vehicle response settings, according to driving needs and road conditions, by turning the ring of the knob fig. 85 (located on the centre tunnel):

  • 1 = AUTO mode;
  • 2 = OFF ROAD mode;
  • 3 = Gravity Control function.

The ring is monostable, i.e. it always returns to the central position.

The selected driving mode is indicated by the corresponding LED on the knob lighting up and by the message on the display.

"Auto" mode

This is a driving mode designed for comfort and safety in normal driving and grip conditions.

"Off road" mode

This is a driving mode designed to help pull away on low-grip surfaces (for example snow, ice, mud, etc.).

Engaging

Turn the ring fig. 85 to the right and hold it in this position for half a second, and in any case until the corresponding LED lights up and the "Off Road" mode engagement is shown on the display with a dedicated message.

After release, the ring returns to the central position.

When the "Off Road" mode is engaged, the ELD intervention function is automatically enabled.

WARNING When the "Off Road" mode is engaged, the Start&Stop system is temporarily disabled. The temporary disabling of the system switches on the corresponding LED on the switch panel (located on the central dashboard). To re-enable the Start&Stop function with "Off Road" mode engaged, press the buttonlocated on the dashboard control switch panel. However, when the "Off Road" mode is deactivated, the Start&Stop system is enabled again.

WARNING When the "Off Road" mode is selected, the City Brake Control system is temporarily disabled. Temporary deactivation of the system causes the warning light to illuminateon the instrument cluster. When the "Off Road" mode is deselected, the City Brake Control system is enabled again.

Disengaging

To deselect the "Off Road" mode and return to "Auto", turn the knob to the left and hold it in this position for half a second.

In this case, the LED for the "Auto" mode will illuminate and the display will show a message confirming that the "Off Road" mode has been deselected.

WARNING If the selected mode is "Off Road" or "Auto" before the engine is switched off, the selected mode is retained at the next start.

"Gravity Control" function

This is a driving function designed to maintain the vehicle at a constant speed when descending steep gradients.

Activation / Deactivation

To activate/deactivate the Gravity Control function, refer to the paragraph "Active safety systems" in the "Safety" chapter.

Drive mode selector system fault

WARNING If the system or the knob is faulty, no driving mode can be selected. A dedicated message will be shown on the display.

WARNING In this case, do not attempt to tackle very steep descents: the system cannot provide any driving assistance.
