ABS (Anti-lock Braking System)

~1min read

This is a system, integrated into the braking system, that prevents one or more wheels from locking and consequently skidding, under any road surface condition and braking intensity, thus maintaining control of the vehicle even during emergency braking.

WARNING For maximum braking system efficiency, a break-in period of approximately 500 km is required. During this period, avoid harsh, repeated and prolonged braking.

The ABS system also incorporates the following systems: EBD (Electronic Braking Force Distribution), MSR (Motor Schleppmoment Regelung) and MBA (Mechanical Brake Assist) (for versions/markets where provided).

System intervention

ABS intervention is noticeable through a slight pulsing of the brake pedal, accompanied by noise. This is completely normal system behaviour during intervention.
