ASR (AntiSlip Regulation) system
It is an integral part of the ESC system.
It intervenes automatically by reducing the engine power transmitted when the driving wheels spin, when grip is lost on wet surfaces (aquaplaning), or when accelerating on slippery, snowy or icy surfaces, etc. Depending on the slip conditions, two different control systems are activated:
- if both driving wheels are slipping, the ASR intervenes by reducing the engine power transmitted;
- if only one of the driving wheels is slipping, it intervenes by automatically braking the slipping wheel.
Activating/deactivating the system
The ASR switches on automatically every time the engine is started.
While driving, the ASR can be deactivated and then reactivated by pressing the ASR OFF button fig. 49.

On some versions, activation of the system is indicated by a dedicated message on the display.
Deactivation of the system is indicated by the LED on the ASR OFF button lighting up and, on some versions, by a dedicated message on the display.
If the ASR is deactivated while driving, it will switch back on automatically at the next engine start.
When driving on snow-covered roads with snow chains fitted, it may be useful to deactivate the ASR: in these conditions, slipping of the driving wheels when starting off provides greater traction.
