HH (Hill Holder)

~1min read

It is an integral part of the ESC system and makes starting on a slope easier.

It activates automatically in the following cases:

  • uphill: vehicle stopped on a road with a gradient greater than 5%, engine running, brake pressed and gear lever in neutral or in a forward gear;
  • downhill: vehicle stopped on a road with a gradient greater than 5%, engine running, brake pressed and reverse gear engaged.
When moving off, the ESC control unit maintains brake pressure on the wheels until the engine torque needed to start moving is reached, or for a maximum of 2 seconds, allowing the right foot to be easily moved from the brake pedal to the accelerator.

After 2 seconds, if the vehicle has not moved off, the system deactivates automatically, gradually releasing the brake pressure.

During this release phase, a typical mechanical release noise from the brakes may be heard, indicating that the vehicle is about to move.

NOTE: The Hill Holder system is not active when the parking brake is applied.

WARNING The Hill Holder system is not a parking brake, so do not leave the vehicle without having applied the parking brake, switched off the engine and engaged first gear, and parked the vehicle in a safe condition.
