ELD (Electronic Locking Differential) system

~2min read

(Panda Cross 4x4 and Panda 4x4 versions)

The ELD system distributes the driving force appropriately across the same axle when one or both wheels slip.

The ELD, in fact, acts by braking the wheels that lose grip (or slip more than the others), thus transferring the driving force to those with greater grip on the ground. The system operates below 50 km/h; above this speed it deactivates automatically and reactivates as soon as the speed drops below 50 km/h.

Activating the ELD system brings the following functions into operation:

  • inhibition of the ASR function, to fully exploit the engine torque;
  • differential locking effect on the front and rear axles, through the braking system, to optimise traction on uneven surfaces.

Enabling the system

To prepare the ELD system for operation, press button A fig. 50 (Panda 4x4 versions) or turn the knob fig. 51 to the right (Panda Cross 4x4 versions), holding it in this position until LED 2 on the selector lights up.

System intervention

Intervention of the system is indicated by the flashing of the warning lighton the instrument cluster.

When using the temporary spare wheel

When the temporary spare wheel is fitted, the 4x4 transmission control unit recognises its presence (through the wheel speed signals) and reduces the intervention of the all-wheel drive mode to the minimum necessary, while still ensuring the vehicle can move (degraded operation). No fault/warning message is shown either on the instrument cluster or on the display.

Disabling the system

To disable the system, press button A fig. 50 (Panda 4x4 versions) or turn the knob fig. 51 to the left (Panda Cross 4x4 versions), holding it in this position until LED 1 on the selector lights up.
