IN AN EMERGENCY
Replacement procedure
In this manual: IN AN EMERGENCY
~2min read
- Stop the vehicle in a place that does not obstruct road traffic and allows the wheel to be changed safely (where possible, the ground should be level and sufficiently firm). Switch off the engine, apply the parking brake and engage 1st
gear or reverse gear. Before leaving the vehicle, put on a high-visibility vest (mandatory by law);
- Open the boot lid and lift the floor mat or remove the cargo box (for versions/markets where provided); (Fig. 98) Remove the tool container c (place it next to the wheel to be replaced) and take out the spare temporary wheel b;

- using the wrench from the kit E, Fig. 99, loosen the retaining bolt by about one turn, then use mechanism F, Fig. 100, to extend the jack until its upper part G is correctly seated in reinforcement H;

- warn any nearby persons that the vehicle is being raised; ask them to move to a safe distance and wait until the vehicle has been lowered before the wheel is changed;
- insert crank L, Fig. 100, to operate the jack and raise the vehicle until the wheels are a few centimetres above the ground;
- remove the wheel cover after unscrewing the three retaining screws, then unscrew the fourth screw and remove the wheel (only on versions fitted with a wheel cover secured by screws);
- make sure the surface of the spare temporary wheel that will contact the hub is free of dirt that could cause the retaining bolts to loosen; fit the spare wheel by screwing in the first bolt two turns into the hole closest to the valve, and fit the wheel cover so that the hole marked with the symbol aligns with the bolt already screwed in, using the wrench from the kit;
- screw in the retaining bolts fully;
- using crank L, Fig. 100, lower the vehicle.
Then remove the jack;
- using the wrench from the kit, tighten the retaining bolts fully, in a diagonal sequence;
- When fitting an alloy wheel, it is recommended to mount it reversed, i.e. with the decorative face pointing up.
