IN AN EMERGENCY

Fitting the standard wheel

~3min read

Following the procedure described above, raise the vehicle and remove the spare temporary wheel.

Versions with steel rims

  • make sure the surface of the standard wheel that will contact the hub is free of dirt that could cause the retaining bolts to loosen;
  • fit the standard wheel, screwing in the first bolt 2 turns into the hole closest to the valve;
  • fit the wheel cover so that the hole marked with the symbol aligns with the bolt already screwed in, using the wrench from the kit; then screw in the remaining bolts and tighten the retaining bolts using the wrench from the kit;
  • lower the vehicle and remove the jack. Using the wrench from the kit, tighten the retaining bolts fully, in a diagonal sequence.

Versions with alloy rims

  • place the wheel on the hub and screw in the bolts using the wrench from the kit;
  • lower the vehicle and remove the jack. Using the wrench from the kit, tighten the retaining bolts fully, in a diagonal sequence.

After completing the above steps

Place the spare temporary wheel in the boot recess, put the jack and other tools into the container, place the container on the spare wheel and tighten the locking mechanism. Correctly position the boot floor mat or the cargo box (for versions/markets where provided);

CAUTION

128) The spare temporary wheel (for versions/markets where provided) is specific to this vehicle model; spare temporary wheels from other models must not be fitted to this vehicle. The spare temporary wheel may only be used in emergency situations.

Its use should be limited to the minimum necessary, and the speed must not exceed 80 km/h. The spare temporary wheel has an orange sticker showing the main warnings about using this type of wheel and the related restrictions. This sticker must never be removed or covered. The sticker gives the following information in four languages: "Warning! For temporary use only! 80 km/h max! Replace with a standard vehicle wheel as soon as possible. Do not cover this information". Never fit a wheel cover to the spare temporary wheel.

129) The stopped vehicle must be signalled in accordance with road traffic regulations: hazard warning lights, warning triangle, etc.

Passengers should leave the vehicle, especially if it is heavily loaded, and wait for the wheel change in a place not exposed to road traffic. When stopped on a slope or uneven ground, place wheel chocks or other objects under the wheels to block them.

130) Adjust your driving style when the spare temporary wheel is fitted. Avoid acceleration, sudden braking, sharp steering and fast cornering. The total service life of the spare temporary wheel is approximately 3000 km. After this distance, replace the tyre with a new one of the same type. Never fit conventional tyres to the rim intended for the spare temporary wheel. Repair the removed wheel and refit it as soon as possible. Using two or more spare temporary wheels at the same time is not permitted. Do not lubricate the bolt threads before fitting: they may loosen by themselves.

131) The jack is intended only for changing wheels on the vehicle it is supplied with, or on a vehicle of the same model. Any improper use is strictly prohibited, for example lifting a vehicle of another model. Never use it to carry out repair work under the vehicle. Incorrect positioning of the jack may cause the vehicle to fall. Do not use the jack to lift loads greater than those stated on the jack's rating plate.

132) An incorrectly fitted wheel trim may come off while driving. Never damage the inflation valve. Do not place any objects between the rim and the tyre. Check the tyre pressure regularly, including the spare wheel. The pressures must match the values given in the "Technical data" chapter.

CAUTION

41) Contact the authorised Fiat service centre (ASO) as soon as possible to have the tightening of the wheel fixing bolts checked.
