308-880 Installer, Output Shaft Seal

Removal

   Remove the wheel and tire.
   Refer to: Wheels and Tires (204-04A Wheels and Tires, Removal and Installation).

   Remove the bolt and position the LH brake hose aside.

   NOTICE: Do not use a pry bar or separator fork between the ball joint and steering knuckle. Damage to the ball joint or ball joint seal may occur. Use a pry bar only by inserting it into the lower arm housing hole.

   NOTICE: Be careful when releasing the lower arm and steering knuckle, or damage to the ball joint seal may occur.

   Remove and discard the knuckle bolt and nut. Disconnect the lower control arm and position the steering knuckle aside.

   If equipped.
   Remove the retainers and the underbody shield.

   Remove the axle shaft from the transaxle and position it aside.

   Remove and discard the axle seal.

   

Installation

1. 1
   Using the special tool, install the axle shaft seal.
   Use the special service tool: 308-880 Installer, Driveshaft Seal.

   • Use new part: AA5P-4N206-A.
     Pull the LH axle shaft outward to make sure the retaining clip is locked.

   • Remove the special tool before fully installing the axle shaft.

   Fully insert the axle shaft until the retaining clip seats.

   Install the lower ball joint into the steering knuckle and install a new lower ball joint bolt and nut.
   Torque: 38 lb-ft (52 N·m)

   Install the LH brake hose to the strut.
   Torque: 19 lb-ft (26 N·m)

   Check the transmission fluid level.
   Refer to: Transmission Fluid Level Check (308-03B Manual Transmission - 6-Speed Manual Transmission - B6, General Procedures).

   If equipped.
   Install the underbody shield and clips.

   Install the wheel and tire.
   Refer to: Wheels and Tires (204-04A Wheels and Tires, Removal and Installation).
