Data Recording
We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting the information contained in this publication. The information was correct at the time of printing, but since technology changes rapidly, we recommend visiting the regional Ford website for the latest information.
Your vehicle is equipped with electronic control modules that have data recording capability and the ability to store data permanently or temporarily. This data may include information on the status and condition of your vehicle, vehicle maintenance requirements, events and malfunctions. The types of data that may be recorded are described in this section. Some recorded data is stored in event logs or error logs.
Recorded data includes, for example:
- Operating conditions of system components, such as fuel level, tire pressure and battery charge level.
- Vehicle and component status, for example, wheel rotation speed, deceleration, lateral acceleration and seat belt position status.
- Events or faults in major systems, for example, headlamps and brakes.
- System reactions to road situations, for example, airbag deployment and stability control.
- Environmental conditions, for example temperature.
Some of this data, when used in combination with other information, for example, an accident report, vehicle damage or eyewitness statements, may be associated with a specific person.
Service Data
Service data recorders in your vehicle are capable of collecting and storing diagnostic information about your vehicle. This may include information on the performance or condition of various systems and modules in the vehicle, such as the engine, throttle, steering or brake systems. For proper diagnosis and service of your vehicle, Ford Motor Company (Ford of Canada in Canada) and service and repair facilities may access or share among them vehicle diagnostic information obtained through direct connection to your vehicle when diagnosing or servicing your vehicle. In addition, Ford Motor Company (Ford of Canada in Canada) may, where permitted by law, use vehicle diagnostic information to improve the vehicle or combine it with other information we may have about you, for example, your contact information, to offer you products or services that may interest you. Data may be provided to our service providers, such as parts suppliers, who may help diagnose faults and who are also obliged to protect the data. We keep this data only for as long as necessary to perform these functions or to comply with the law. We may provide information when required in response to official requests from law enforcement or other government agencies or third parties acting under legal authority or court order, and such information may be used in legal proceedings. US only (if equipped): if you choose to use connected apps and services, you agree that certain diagnostic information may also be accessed electronically by Ford Motor Company and authorized Ford service facilities, and that diagnostic information may be used to provide a service to you, personalize your experience, troubleshoot, improve products and services, and offer you products and services that may interest you, where permitted by law. Canada only: for more information, please review the Ford of Canada Privacy Policy at www.ford.ca, including our data storage and use practices in the US, the use of service providers in other jurisdictions, which may be subject to legal requirements in Canada, the United States and other countries applicable to, for example, legal requirements to disclose personal information to government authorities in those countries.
Event Data
This vehicle is equipped with an event data recorder. The primary purpose of the event data recorder is to record, in certain crash or near-crash-like situations, such as an airbag deployment or hitting a road obstacle, data that will assist in understanding how a vehicle's systems performed. The event data recorder is designed to record vehicle dynamics and safety system data for a brief period of time, typically 30 seconds or less.
The event data recorder in this vehicle is designed to record data such as:
- How various systems in your vehicle were operating;
- Whether or not the driver and passenger safety belts were buckled/fastened;
- How far, if at all, the driver was depressing the accelerator and/or brake pedal; and
- How fast the vehicle was traveling; and
- Where the driver was steering.
This data can help provide a better understanding of the circumstances in which crashes and injuries occur.
Specialized equipment is required to read data recorded by the event data recorder, and access to the vehicle or the event data recorder is needed. In addition to the vehicle manufacturer, other parties, such as law enforcement, that have such specialized equipment may read the information if they have access to the vehicle or the event data recorder.
Comfort, Convenience and Entertainment
Your vehicle is equipped with electronic control modules that can store data based on your personal settings. Data is stored locally in the vehicle or on devices you connect to it, such as a USB drive or a digital music player. You can delete some of this data and choose whether to share it through services to which you subscribe.
Comfort and Convenience Data
Recorded data includes, for example:
- Seat and steering wheel positions.
- Climate control settings.
- Radio presets.
Entertainment Data
Recorded data includes, for example:
- Music, video or album cover art.
- Contacts and associated address book entries.
- Navigation destinations.
Services We Provide
If you subscribe to our services, we collect and use data, such as account information, vehicle location and driving characteristics, which could identify you. We transmit this data through a dedicated, secure connection. We collect and use the data only to provide the services you have subscribed to, with your consent or where permitted by law. Third-Party Services
We recommend that you review the terms and conditions and data privacy information for any services you subscribe to. We are not responsible for services provided by third parties.
Vehicles with Modem (If Equipped)
The modem contains a SIM card. The modem was activated when your vehicle was built and periodically sends messages to stay connected to the cellular network, automatically receive software updates, and send vehicle-related information to us, such as diagnostic information. These messages may include information that identifies your vehicle, the SIM card and the modem's electronic serial number. Cellular network service providers may have access to additional information, such as cell tower identification. For additional information about our privacy policy, visit www.FordConnected.com or refer to your local Ford website.

Mobile Device Data
If you connect a mobile device to the vehicle, you can display data from your device on the touchscreen, such as music and album covers. You can share your vehicle data with mobile applications on your device through the system.
The mobile application feature operates through your connected device, which sends data to us in the United States. The data is encrypted and includes your vehicle identification number, SYNC module serial number, odometer reading, enabled applications, usage statistics and debugging information. We retain it only for as long as necessary to provide the service, troubleshoot, continuously improve, and offer you products and services that may be of interest to you, in accordance with your preferences and where permitted by law.
If you connect a mobile phone to the system, the system creates a profile that references that cellular phone. The mobile phone profile enables more mobile features and efficient operation. The profile contains, for example, data from your phone book, read and unread text messages, and call history, including call history recorded when your cellular phone was not connected to the system.
When a multimedia device is connected, the system creates and stores an index of the supported media content on the media device. The system also records a short diagnostic log of approximately 10 minutes of all recent system activity.
The mobile phone profile, multimedia device index and diagnostic log remain in your vehicle unless you delete them, and they are normally accessible only in your vehicle when you connect your mobile phone or multimedia device. If you no longer plan to use the system or your vehicle, we recommend using the master reset function to erase the stored information.
Access to system data is not possible without special equipment and access to the vehicle module.
For additional information about our privacy policy, refer to your local Ford dealer website.
Vehicles with Emergency Call System
When the emergency call system is active, it can notify emergency services that your vehicle has been involved in a crash with airbag deployment or activation of the fuel pump shut-off. Some versions or updates of the emergency call system may also be able to electronically or verbally send the location of your vehicle or other vehicle or crash information to emergency service operators, to help them provide the most appropriate emergency services. If you do not want to disclose this information, do not activate the emergency call system.
