Seat Belts

Principle of Operation

~2min read

All seating positions in your vehicle have lap and shoulder belts. All occupants should always wear their seat belts properly, even when the vehicle is equipped with a supplemental restraint system (airbag).

The seat belt system consists of:

  • Lap and shoulder seat belts.
  • Shoulder belt with automatic locking mode (except driver's seat belt).
  • Front outboard seating positions height adjuster.
  • Seat belt pretensioners on the front outboard and rear outboard second-row seating positions.
  • Seat belt tension sensor on the front passenger seating position.

  • Impact sensors and monitoring system with readiness indicator.

Seat belt pretensioners are designed to tighten the seat belts when activated. In frontal and near-frontal collisions, the seat belt pretensioners may be activated alone or, if the crash is severe enough, together with the front airbags. The pretensioners may also activate when the Safety Canopy airbag deploys.
