Belt-Minder™

This feature supplements the seat belt warning function by providing additional reminders, which periodically sound a chime and illuminate the seat belt warning light, when you are in the driver's seat or you have a front seat passenger and the seat belt is unfastened.

The system uses information from the front passenger detection system to determine whether a front seat passenger is present and therefore potentially needs a reminder. To prevent the Belt-Minder function from activating for objects placed on the front passenger seat, only front seat passengers receive reminders as determined by the front passenger sensor system.

If the Belt-Minder reminders have timed out (reminders last approximately five minutes) for one occupant (driver or front passenger), the other occupant can still trigger the Belt-Minder function to activate.

Deactivating and Activating the Belt-Minder Function

Carefully read steps 1–4 before proceeding with the programming procedure.

Before performing the procedure, make sure that:

  • The parking brake is applied.
  • The transmission is in Park (P) or Neutral (N).
  • The ignition is off.
  • The driver and front passenger seat belts are unbuckled.
  1. Turn the ignition on. Do not start the vehicle.
  2. Wait until the unbelted warning lamp turns off (approximately 1 minute). After step 2, wait another 5 seconds before proceeding to step 3. Once you begin step 3, you must complete the procedure within 30 seconds.
  3. For the seating position, turn off, buckle, and then unbuckle the seat belt three times at a moderate speed, ending in the unbuckled state. After step 3, the unbelted warning lamp turns on.
  4. When the seat belt warning lamp is on, buckle and then unbuckle the seat belt. After step 4, the unbelted warning lamp flashes to confirm.
  • This will disable the feature for this seating position, if it is currently enabled.
  • This will enable the feature for this seating position, if it is currently disabled.
