If the fuel tank filler valve is not fully closed, a message may appear in the information display.

Ford Fusion. Refueling System Warning (If Equipped)

If a message appears, do the following:

  1. Stop your vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so and switch off the engine.
  2. Engage Park (P) or Neutral (N).
  3. Apply the parking brake.
  4. Fully open the fuel tank filler door.
  5. Check the fuel tank filler valve for debris that may restrict its movement.
  6. Remove debris from the fuel tank filler valve.
  7. Fully insert the fuel pump nozzle or the fuel tank filler funnel supplied with the vehicle into the fuel filler neck. This action should dislodge any debris that may prevent the fuel tank filler valve from closing fully.
  8. Remove the fuel pump nozzle or fuel tank filler funnel from the fuel filler neck.
  9. Fully close the fuel tank filler door.
