Ford Fusion: Refueling / Refueling Your Vehicle

Caution

When refueling, always switch off the engine and never allow sparks or open flame near the fuel tank filler opening. Never smoke or use a cellular telephone while refueling. Fuel vapors are extremely dangerous under certain conditions. Avoid breathing excessive amounts of vapor.

The fuel system may be under pressure. If you hear a hissing sound near the fuel filler neck, do not refuel until the sound stops. Otherwise, fuel may spray out, which may result in serious injury.

Do not open the fuel tank filler valve. This may damage the fuel system. Failure to follow this instruction may result in fire, personal injury or death.

Do not spill fuel. Keep the fuel pump nozzle in the fully inserted position while refueling.

Stop refueling when the fuel pump nozzle automatically shuts off for the first time. Failure to follow this may fill the expansion space in the fuel tank and may cause overfilling.

Do not overfill the fuel tank. Pressure in an overfilled tank may cause leakage and result in fuel spray and fire.

Wait at least five seconds before removing the fuel pump nozzle to allow residual fuel to drain into the fuel tank.

Fully open the fuel tank filler door.

Select the correct fuel pump nozzle for your vehicle.

Insert the fuel pump nozzle fully. Align the first mark on the nozzle with A. Keep the fuel pump nozzle resting on the fuel filler tube of the tank.

Hold the fuel pump nozzle in position B while refueling. Holding the fuel pump nozzle in position A may affect fuel flow and shut off the fuel supply to the fuel pump nozzle before the fuel tank is completely filled.

Activate the fuel pump nozzle within the indicated area.

When you have finished refueling, slightly lift the fuel pump nozzle and slowly remove it.

Fully close the fuel tank filler door.

Do not attempt to start the engine if you have filled the fuel tank with the wrong fuel. Improper use of fuel may cause damage not covered by the vehicle warranty. Have your vehicle inspected immediately.
