Warning Lamps and Indicators
The following warning lamps and indicators alert you to a vehicle condition that may become serious. Some warning lamps illuminate when you start the vehicle to check that they work correctly. If any warning lamps remain on after you start your vehicle, refer to the explanations for the relevant warning lamps for more information.
Note: Some warning lamps are displayed in the information display and act as warning lamps but do not illuminate when you start the vehicle.
Adaptive Cruise Control Indicator
The cruise control indicator
changes color to show the system mode: See Using Cruise Control (page 186).

Engaged (green light): Illuminates when the adaptive cruise control system is engaged. Goes off when the cruise control system is disengaged.
Anti-lock Braking System Warning Lamp
If it illuminates while
driving, this indicates a fault in the system. Normal braking (without anti-lock braking) remains fully operational, unless the brake system warning lamp is also illuminated. Have your vehicle checked by an authorized dealer.
Automatic High Beam Indicator
It illuminates when you activate
this function. See Automatic High Beam Control (page 66).

If it illuminates while
driving, there is a fault in the system. Switch off all electrical devices that are not essential. Have your vehicle checked immediately by an authorized dealer.
Blind Spot Monitoring Indicator
It illuminates when you
deactivate this function or when a message is displayed.
See Blind Spot Information System (page 200). See General Information (page 89).
Brake System Warning Lamp
It illuminates when you apply
the parking brake and the ignition is on.
If it illuminates while driving, check that the parking brake is not applied. If the parking brake is not applied, it indicates that the brake fluid level is low, or a fault in the brake system.
Have your vehicle checked immediately by an authorized dealer.
WARNING
Driving your vehicle with this warning lamp illuminated is dangerous. Braking performance may be significantly reduced. A longer distance will be needed to stop your vehicle. Have your vehicle checked immediately by an authorized dealer. Driving long distances with the parking brake applied may cause brake failure, with a risk of personal injury.
Cruise Control Indicator
It illuminates when you activate
this function. See Using Cruise Control (page 186).
Luggage Compartment Lid Open Warning Lamp
This warning lamp illuminates when the
ignition is on and the luggage compartment lid is not fully closed.

This warning lamp illuminates when the
ignition is on and a door is not fully closed.
Electric Parking Brake Warning Lamp
It illuminates if there is a fault in the
electric parking brake.
Engine Temperature or Engine Coolant Temperature Warning Lamp
It illuminates when the
engine or engine coolant temperature is high. Stop your vehicle as soon as possible and contact an authorized dealer.
Engine Oil Warning Lamp
WARNING
If this warning lamp illuminates while you are driving, do not continue your journey, even if the oil level is correct. Have your vehicle checked.
If this warning lamp illuminates when the
engine is running or while driving, it indicates a fault in the system.
Stop the vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so and switch off the engine. Check the engine oil level. See Checking Engine Oil (page 243).
EV Now Indicator
It illuminates when you activate
this function. See Hybrid Electric Vehicle.
EV Later Indicator
It illuminates when you
select this function. See Hybrid Electric Vehicle.
Seatbelt Warning Lamp
It illuminates, accompanied by an
audible signal, to remind you to fasten your seatbelt.
Front Airbag Warning Lamp
If the warning lamp does not illuminate
when you start the vehicle, remains on or flashes, the system may be deactivated.
Have your vehicle checked by an authorized dealer.
Front Fog Lamp Indicator
It illuminates when the
front fog lamps are switched on.
Ice Warning Indicator
WARNING

It illuminates when the
outside air temperature is 4°C or below.
Hill Descent Control Indicator (if fitted)
It illuminates when you activate
the hill descent control function.
Head-up Display (if fitted)
A red light beam
appears on the windshield in certain situations when using adaptive cruise control or the pre-collision assist warning system. It also illuminates briefly when you start the vehicle to confirm that the display is working.
High beam indicator light
It illuminates when you activate
the high beams. It flashes when you flash the headlamps.
Hill Start Assist Indicator
It illuminates when the system
is not available.

It illuminates if there is a fault with the
low beam bulbs.
Low Fuel Indicator
If this indicator illuminates while
driving, refill the fuel tank as soon as possible.
Low Tire Pressure Indicator
It illuminates when the tire
pressure is low. If this indicator stays on while the engine is running or while driving, check the tire pressure as soon as possible.
In addition, this indicator illuminates briefly when you switch the ignition on to confirm that it is working correctly. If it does not illuminate when you switch the ignition on, or if it suddenly starts flashing, have the system checked by an authorized dealer.
Parking Lamps Indicator
It illuminates when you activate
the parking lamps.
Powertrain Fault Indicator
It illuminates if there is a fault in the
powertrain.
Contact an authorized dealer as soon as possible.
Note: if your vehicle detects certain faults, you may not be able to operate the accelerator pedal. In this case, press the brake pedal and release it.
This activates the limp home mode. In limp home mode, your vehicle accelerates in a controlled manner up to a maximum speed of 56 km/h on level ground. If you press the brake pedal or put the transmission in neutral (N), you can cancel the acceleration of the vehicle.

stays on after you start the engine, this indicates that the On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) system has detected a malfunction in the vehicle's emission control system.
Refer to the On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) section in the refuelling chapter for more information on the action to take.
See Safety Precautions (page 148).
If the indicator flashes, this indicates engine misfires that may damage your catalytic converter. Drive with care (avoid sudden acceleration and deceleration) and have your vehicle repaired immediately by an authorized dealer.
Note: in the event of engine misfires, excessively high exhaust gas temperatures may damage the catalytic converter or other vehicle components.
The engine service indicator illuminates when you switch the ignition on, before starting the engine, to check that the bulb is working and to show whether the vehicle is ready for an inspection and maintenance test.
Normally, the engine service indicator stays on until you start the engine, then it switches off automatically if no malfunction has been detected.
However, if the engine service indicator flashes eight times after 15 seconds, this indicates that the vehicle is not ready for an inspection and maintenance test. See Safety Precautions (page 148).
Speed limiter
It illuminates when you activate
the speed limiter. See Speed Limiter
Electronic Stability Control
It flashes when the system
is active. If the indicator stays on or does not illuminate when you switch the ignition on, this indicates a malfunction. The system is deactivated for as long as the malfunction lasts. Have your vehicle checked immediately by an authorized dealer. See Using the Electronic Stability Program (page 168).
Stability Control Off Indicator
When you deactivate the
system, the indicator illuminates. It switches off when you reactivate the system or switch the ignition off.
