Driver and Passenger Safety
Two-Stage Inflator Airbags
In this manual: Driver and Passenger Safety
~1min read
The front airbags are equipped with two-stage inflators.
Depending on the severity of the collision, the airbags may be inflated sequentially or simultaneously by the two inflator stages.
In a severe impact, the airbag is inflated simultaneously by both inflator stages, i.e., most rapidly and at high pressure.
In a moderate impact, the airbag is first inflated by the first inflator stage, and then, a fraction of a second later, by the second stage.
As a result, the airbag opens less rapidly and with less force.
