Driver and Passenger Safety

In a Side Impact

~1min read

In a side impact (medium or severe), signals from the impact sensors are sent to the electronic control unit, which causes the curtain airbag, as well as the seat belt pretensioner of the driver or front passenger, to deploy almost instantly.

If the impact occurs on the front passenger side, the curtain airbag on the same side of the vehicle deploys even if the passenger seat is unoccupied.
