If the rollover sensor detects a rollover hazard, it instructs the control unit to activate both side curtain airbags and the seat belt pretensioners of both front seats.

In this case, the side airbag and the front passenger seat belt pretensioner deploy even if the passenger seat is unoccupied. For best protection from the side curtain airbags in a side impact, the driver and front passenger must sit in the correct position and wear their seat belts.
