Using the Outboard Lower Anchorages

To install a child restraint system that is secured with lower anchorages in your vehicle, follow the instructions below:
1. Insert the seat belt buckle into its designated recess.
2. Make sure there are no objects in the installation area that could prevent the child restraint system from being securely attached to the lower anchorages.
3. Some child restraint systems come with guide sleeves that protect the seat upholstery from damage during installation.

Attach the guide sleeves to the lower anchorages as shown in the illustration.
When installing the guide sleeves, follow the child restraint system manufacturer's instructions.

4. Place the child restraint system on the vehicle seat, then secure it to the lower anchorages following the instructions of the restraint system manufacturer.
Some child restraint systems have rigid attachments (see illustration).

Other child restraint systems may have strap-type attachments (see illustration).
5. Regardless of the design of the child restraint system, follow all of the manufacturer's instructions regarding adjustment and tightening of the fasteners.
Some countries are supplied with child restraint systems equipped with flexible anchors.
Child restraint systems of this type are not supplied to European countries.
6. Move the head restraint to the highest position.
7. Route the tether strap around the outside of the head restraint posts, then attach the tether hook to the tether anchor bracket on the ceiling, as shown in the illustration. Make sure the strap is not twisted. Then tighten the strap according to the child restraint manufacturer's instructions.

The upper illustration shows how to route the tether strap with hook in accordance with European standards.

For some types of child restraint systems, route the strap between the head restraint posts, as shown in the illustration.
8. After installing the child restraint system, pull it forward and backward and from side to side to check that it is securely installed in the required position.
