Seat Belt System Description
Your vehicle is equipped with three-point seat belts for the driver and all passengers. The front seat belts also have automatic tensioning devices.
To improve safety, vehicles equipped with the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) have front seat belts with enhanced pretensioners that work together with the CMBS.

The seat belt system uses an indicator light on the instrument panel and an audible chime to remind you to fasten your seat belt.
This system continuously monitors the status of all seat belts (fastened or unfastened).
When the ignition switch is turned to ON (II) and a seat belt is unfastened, a warning chime sounds and the indicator light flashes. If the seat belt is not fastened before the chime stops, the indicator light stops flashing and stays on.
If the front passenger does not fasten the seat belt, the indicator light comes on approximately 6 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to ON (II).
If the driver's or front passenger's seat belt is not fastened while the vehicle is moving, the indicator flashing and the chime will repeat periodically.
If the front passenger seat is unoccupied or occupied by a small child, the indicator does not come on and the chime does not sound.
If a seat belt is unfastened while the vehicle is moving, the following symbol may appear on the instrument panel in addition to the indicator light coming on:
This may be accompanied by the message "FASTEN SEAT BELT".
This symbol or message will remain displayed while the vehicle is moving if you do not fasten your seat belt.
Symbol
This symbol, or this symbol together with the message "FASTEN PASSENGER SEAT BELT", also appears if the front passenger's seat belt is unfastened while the vehicle is moving. This symbol or message will remain displayed while the vehicle is moving if the seat belt is not fastened.
The seat belt monitoring system uses a sensor to determine whether the front passenger seat is occupied. The sensor may not work or may malfunction in the following cases:
• A heavy object is placed on the front passenger seat.
• A passenger is sitting on a cushion placed on the front seat.
• The front passenger is not sitting in the correct position.
If the indicator light or chime comes on when there is no passenger or object on the front seat, have the system inspected and repaired by an authorized dealer.
Rear Seat Belt Unfastened Warning Display

The system also monitors whether the seat belts are fastened at each rear seat position.
After turning the ignition switch to ON (II), you can display information on whether the rear seat belts are fastened on the multi-information display. To do this, press the INFO button repeatedly.
The rear seat belt unfastened warning display will then appear on the multi-information display instead of the current screen.
The display shows whether any rear door has been opened and closed, and whether any rear seat passenger has fastened their seat belt.
This information remains on the display for 30 seconds. If the driver presses the INFO button
on the steering wheel, this information disappears from the display immediately.
When the inertia reels are activated, the system also determines whether each rear seat belt is fastened.

The system shows on the display which seat belts are unfastened and can remind passengers to fasten their seat belts in a timely manner. Depending on which belt is in use, indicators (1-3) are displayed on the multi-information display.
The seat belt unfastened warning system activates the indicator if the rear seat belt buckle tongue has been pulled out of the buckle by a certain amount.
This indicator does not confirm whether the seat belt is actually fastened. If the indicator shows that the seat belt is fastened, make sure it is properly fastened.
You can also check whether the seat belt is fastened while driving. Press and release the INFO button repeatedly
to change the screen shown on the display.

If the system cannot determine whether the seat belts are fastened, dashes will appear on the display (see illustration). To reinitialize the system, turn the ignition key to the LOCK (0) position.
If this situation occurs repeatedly, have your vehicle inspected at a authorized dealer service center.
