Advanced Seat Belt Pretensioners

For vehicles equipped with the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS): To enhance safety, the front seat belts are equipped with advanced pretensioners that work together with the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS). For more information on the CMBS, refer to page 391.
In addition, the advanced seat belt pretensioners interact with the brake booster.
If your vehicle approaches a vehicle ahead within a certain distance, the pretensioner slightly takes up the seat belt to alert the driver of an approaching hazard. If the likelihood of a collision with the vehicle ahead increases, the advanced pretensioners will tighten the driver's and front passenger's seat belts with greater force, sufficient to provide protection. After activation, the advanced pretensioners release the seat belts.
For the advanced pretensioners to protect you effectively, you and the front passenger must be seated in the correct positions and wearing your seat belts (page 23).
The advanced pretensioners will not activate if the seat belts are not fastened, or if the Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) OFF indicator is illuminated on the instrument panel.
If the seat belt pretensioners have deployed as a result of a collision, not only the pretensioners but also both front seat belts and all related components must be replaced. If only the advanced seat belt pretensioners have been activated, the system components do not need to be replaced.
