Disc Brake Wear Indicator, Rear Drum Brakes

Disc Brake Wear Indicator

When the brake pads are worn and new pads are required, you will hear a high-pitched warning noise from the front or rear brakes. You may hear this noise while driving, or it may occur whenever you depress the brake pedal.

Note that certain driving conditions or climates may cause brake squeal when you first apply (or lightly apply) the brakes. This is normal and does not indicate a brake problem.

NOTICE

To avoid costly brake repairs, do not continue driving with worn brake pads.

Information

Always replace brake pads as a complete set for the front or rear axle.

Rear Drum Brakes

Your rear drum brakes do not have wear indicators. Therefore, inspect the rear brake linings if you hear a rear brake friction noise. Also inspect the rear brakes each time you replace or rotate the tires, and whenever the front brakes are replaced.
