Tire Replacement

~2min read
Hyundai Elantra. Tire Replacement

If the tire is worn evenly, the tread wear indicator will appear as a solid band across the tread. This indicates that less than 2/32 inch (1.6 mm) of tread depth remains on the tire. In this case, replace the tire.

Do not wait until the tread surface is level with the tread wear indicators before replacing the tire.

WARNING

To reduce the risk of DEATH or SERIOUS INJURY:

  • Replace worn, unevenly worn, or damaged tires. Worn tires may result in loss of braking efficiency, steering control, and traction.
  • Always replace tires with tires of the same size as those originally supplied with this vehicle. Using tires and wheels other than the recommended sizes may result in unusual handling characteristics, poor vehicle control, or adversely affect your vehicle's anti-lock braking system (ABS), resulting in a serious accident.
  • Tires age over time, even if they are not used. Regardless of tread depth, HYUNDAI recommends replacing tires after six (6) years of normal service.
  • When replacing tires (or wheels), it is recommended to replace the two front or two rear tires (or wheels) as a pair. Replacing only one tire may seriously affect your vehicle's handling.
  • Heat caused by hot climates or frequent high loads may accelerate the aging process. Failure to observe this warning may result in sudden tire failure, which may lead to loss of vehicle control and, consequently, an accident.

Compact Spare Tire Replacement

The compact spare tire has a shorter service life than a standard-size tire. Replace it when you see the tread wear indicator bands on the tire. A replacement compact spare tire must be the same size and design as the one supplied with your new vehicle and must be installed on the same compact spare wheel. The compact spare wheel is not intended to be fitted to a standard-size wheel, and the compact spare wheel is not intended to accept a standard-size tire.

WARNING

The original tire must be repaired or replaced as soon as possible to avoid failure of the spare and loss of vehicle control, which may lead to an accident. The compact spare tire is intended for emergency use only. Do not drive the vehicle faster than 50 mph (80 km/h) when using the compact spare tire.
