Power Steering - Steering Wheel Play Inspection, Steering Wheel Turning Angle Inspection

STEERING WHEEL PLAY INSPECTION

1. Set the front wheels in the straight-ahead position (steering wheel in the center position), start the engine and apply a force of 5 N to the steering wheel rim (turn the steering wheel slightly).

2. Measure the free play of the steering wheel at its rim.

Standard value:

Steering wheel free play: 0 - 30 mm

3. If the steering wheel play exceeds the maximum allowable value, check for looseness in the steering shaft joints and steering tie rod ends.

STEERING WHEEL TURNING ANGLE INSPECTION

1. Position the front wheels on a turning radius gauge and measure the turning angles of the steering wheels.

Steering wheel turning angles [Standard value]:

Inner wheel: 40°01′ ± 2° Outer wheel: 33°45′

2. If the turning angle does not meet the standard value, adjust the steering linkage (front wheel toe).
