Steering Gear - Inspection and Adjustment Before Disassembly

Install soft metal pads (brass or aluminum plates) on the vise jaws to prevent damage to the steering gear, and secure the steering gear in the vise.
When installing the steering gear in the vise, position the vise jaws in line with the bracket mounting location. Any other clamping method may damage the steering gear.
STEERING GEAR PINION TOTAL ROTATING TORQUE INSPECTION (STEERING GEAR PINION SHAFT PRELOAD)

1. To check the steering gear pinion total rotating torque, use the special wrench to turn the rack and pinion steering gear pinion within one revolution for 4-6 seconds.
Steering gear pinion total rotating torque (Specification):
0,6 - 1.3 N·m
Measure the pinion rotating torque with the steering rack at full stroke.
3. If the pinion total rotating torque cannot be adjusted, inspect the steering rack stopper cover, steering rack stopper spring and steering rack stopper, and replace parts if necessary.
STEERING TIE ROD END BALL JOINT ROTATING RESISTANCE INSPECTION 1. Swing the tie rod end ball joint 10 times forcefully.
2. Using a spring scale, measure the ball joint rotating resistance (rotating torque).
Tie rod end ball joint rotating resistance (Specification):
8 - 22 N (2 - 5 N·m)

3. If the measured value exceeds the specification, replace the tie rod assembly.
If the measured value is less than the specification but the tie rod rotates smoothly without excessive play, the end is serviceable. If the measured value is less than 4.3 N (1 N·m), replace the tie rod assembly.
BOOT INSPECTION
1. Check the boot for damage or deterioration.
2. Check that the boot is properly secured.
3. If the boot is defective, replace it with a new one.
