How to Fill the Power Steering System with Fluid

~1min read

1. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir with the recommended fluid to the "MAX" mark on the reservoir wall.

2. Using a jack, raise the front wheels of the vehicle. Disconnect the high-tension leads from the ignition coils. Crank the engine with several short starter engagements (approximately 5-6 times) while turning the steering wheel fully left and right, five or six times, for 15-20 seconds.

3. Connect the high-tension leads to the ignition coils, then start the engine and let it idle.

Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock until air bubbles disappear from the power steering reservoir.

4. Make sure the fluid is clear, without cloudiness, and its level in the reservoir is near the "MAX" mark on the reservoir wall.

If the fluid level changes significantly when turning the steering wheel or rises sharply after the engine is stopped, air has not been completely removed from the system. Incomplete air removal from the power steering system will cause noise and shorten the service life of the pump and other power steering components.
