Tire Replacement with TPMS

~2min read

If you have a flat tire, the Low Tire Pressure Warning Light and Low Tire Pressure Telltale will illuminate. We recommend that the flat tire be repaired at an authorized HYUNDAI dealer service center as soon as possible, or that the flat tire be replaced with the spare tire.

NOTICE

It is recommended not to use tire puncture repair kits or tire sealants not approved by HYUNDAI dealers to repair and/or inflate a low pressure tire. A tire sealant not approved by HYUNDAI dealers may damage the tire pressure sensor.

The spare tire (if equipped) does not come with a tire pressure monitoring sensor. When a low-pressure tire or a flat tire is replaced with the spare tire, the low tire pressure warning light will remain on. Also, the TPMS malfunction indicator will flash for one minute and then remain on if the vehicle is driven above 25 km/h for approximately 10 minutes.

After the original tire equipped with the tire pressure monitoring sensor is inflated to the recommended pressure and reinstalled on the vehicle, the low tire pressure warning light and the TPMS malfunction indicator will turn off after several minutes of driving.

If the indicators do not turn off after several minutes, visit an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

Each wheel is equipped with a tire pressure monitoring sensor installed inside the tire behind the valve stem (except the spare wheel). You must use TPMS-specific wheels. It is recommended that you always have your tires serviced by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

You may not be able to identify a low-pressure tire just by looking at it. Always use a quality tire pressure gauge to measure tire pressure. Note that a tire that is hot (from being driven) will have a higher pressure reading than a tire that is cold.

A cold tire means the vehicle has been parked for 3 hours and driven less than 1 mile (1.6 km) during that 3-hour period.

Allow the tire to cool before measuring the inflation pressure. Always make sure the tire is cold before inflating it to the recommended pressure.

WARNING

  • The TPMS cannot warn you of a serious or sudden tire failure caused by external factors such as nails or road debris.
  • If you feel the vehicle becoming unstable, immediately release the accelerator pedal, gradually apply the brake with light force, and slowly move to a safe place off the road.

WARNING

Tampering with, modifying, or disabling the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) may interfere with the system's ability to warn the driver of low tire pressure and/or a TPMS malfunction. Tampering with or modifying TPMS components may void the warranty for that part of the vehicle.
