Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)

~2min read

The Lane Keeping Assist system detects lane markings on the road and helps the driver keep the vehicle centered between the lane lines.

When the system detects the vehicle drifting out of its lane, it alerts the driver with a visual warning and a steering wheel vibration warning, and applies a small counter-steering torque to help prevent the vehicle from leaving its lane.

WARNING

The Lane Keeping Assist system does not replace safe driving practices; it is a convenience feature only. It is the driver's responsibility to always stay alert to surrounding conditions and control the vehicle.

WARNING

Observe the following precautions when using the Lane Keeping Assist (LKAS) function:

  • The steering wheel is not constantly controlled, so if the vehicle speed is above the lane departure assist speed, the vehicle may become uncontrollable by the system.
  • Do not turn the steering wheel suddenly while the steering wheel is receiving assistance from the system.
  • LKAS helps prevent the driver from unintentionally leaving the lane by assisting with steering. However, the driver must not rely solely on the system and must always pay attention to the steering wheel to stay in the lane.
  • Always check road and surrounding conditions and be careful when the system is cancelled, not operating, or malfunctioning.
  • Do not place any accessories, stickers, or window tint on the windshield near the rearview mirror.
  • The system detects lane lines and controls steering using the camera. Therefore, if lane lines are difficult to detect, the system may not operate properly. Refer to "Driver Attention".
  • Do not remove LKAS components and do not damage the sensor.
  • Do not place items on the instrument panel that reflect light, such as mirrors, white paper, etc. The system may malfunction if sunlight is reflected.
  • LKAS operation may be affected by several factors (including environmental conditions). It is the driver's responsibility to pay attention to the road and keep the vehicle in the lane at all times.
  • Always keep your hands on the steering wheel while the LKAS is activated. If you continue to drive with your hands off the steering wheel after the "Hands on Steering Wheel" warning light illuminates, the system will turn off automatically.
  • Always use caution when using the system.
