Integrated Drive Mode Control System

~2min read

The drive mode can be selected according to the driver's preference or road conditions.

The system initializes in NORMAL mode after the engine is turned off and on again.

✽ NOTICE

If there is a problem with the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system, the drive mode will be in NORMAL mode and may not transition to ECO mode, SPORT mode, or SNOW mode.

  • The mode changes each time the DRIVE MODE button is pressed.

When NORMAL mode is selected, the cluster is not displayed on the instrument panel.
  • When the DRIVE MODE button is pressed and held for more than one second, SNOW mode will operate regardless of the current DRIVE mode (NORMAL/ECO/SPORT). If the button is pressed again, the DRIVE mode (NORMAL/ECO/SPORT) that was previously active will resume.
  • The selected mode is displayed on the AVN monitor.

ECO Mode (Active ECO)

Active ECO helps improve fuel economy by controlling certain engine and transmission operating parameters.

Fuel efficiency depends on driver actions, driving style, and road conditions.

  • When the DRIVE MODE button is pressed and ECO mode is selected, the ECO indicator (green) illuminates, indicating that Active ECO is operating.
  • When Active ECO is activated and the engine is turned off and on again, it will change to NORMAL mode. To turn on ECO mode, press the DRIVE MODE button until it is selected.

When Active ECO is activated:

  • The response to acceleration may be slightly reduced as the accelerator pedal is pressed moderately.
  • Air conditioner performance may be limited.
  • The automatic transmission shift pattern may change.
  • Engine noise may become louder.

The above conditions are normal when the Active ECO system is activated to improve fuel economy.

Active ECO operation limitations:

If the system is operating during Active ECO, system operation is limited even though the ECO indicator has not changed.

  • When the coolant temperature is low: The system will be limited until engine operation returns to normal.
  • When driving uphill: The system will be limited in obtaining power when driving uphill because engine torque is limited.
  • When using SPORT mode with the automatic transmission: The system will be limited according to the shift point.

SPORT Mode

SPORT mode focuses on dynamic driving by automatically adjusting the steering, engine, and transmission.

  • When the DRIVE MODE button is pressed and SPORT mode is selected, the SPORT indicator (yellow) illuminates.
  • When SPORT mode is turned on and the engine is turned off and on again, it will change to NORMAL mode. To turn on SPORT mode, press the DRIVE MODE button again.
  • If the system is activated:
    - After the accelerator pedal is pressed and released, the transmission gear and engine speed may not drop immediately as in NORMAL mode.
    - Upshifts are delayed.

✽ NOTICE

In SPORT mode, fuel economy may decrease.

SNOW Mode

SNOW mode helps the driver drive more efficiently on slippery roads, such as snowy or muddy roads.
